Social Media Glossary
This is a resource to help you understand the different apps that teens are using. Texting still comes in as the number one way teens are communicating but apps play an important role in the social culture as well.
For all social media sites and apps, the following can be issues and examples of technological abuse:
- Passwords- asking for someone's password to their social media sites and invading a person's right to privacy online
- Pressure/Control- pressuring someone to post something on social media/controlling what someone can post; pressure to get a lot of likes, followers, etc on social media
- Privacy- privacy settings are often automatically set to public; private information can easily be shared with many people
- Posting- posting hurtful, abusive comments and messages on social media apps
